Clinical trials give patients in South-East Queensland the opportunity to access investigational treatments that may not yet be available through standard care - at no cost to you, and with expert medical support at every step. Whether you have a specific health condition or are a healthy volunteer, we'd love to hear from you.

Your existing care always comes first.

Participation in a clinical trial does not replace your current treatment or your relationship with your GP or specialist. Our team works alongside your existing healthcare providers, and you are free to withdraw from any study at any time, for any reason, without consequence.

1
Register your interest

Complete a short online form — no commitment required. Just let us know a little about yourself and your health situation.

2
We'll be in touch

Our team will contact you within two business days to have a friendly conversation, answer your questions, and discuss whether any of our current or upcoming trials may be suitable for you.

3
Screening visit

If there's a potentially suitable trial, you'll be invited to attend a screening visit at one of our clinics in Ipswich or East Brisbane. This visit is at no cost and helps confirm whether you meet the study's eligibility criteria.

4
Informed consent

Before anything proceeds, you'll be given full information about the trial — what's involved, what the potential benefits and risks are, and what your rights are as a participant. You'll have as much time as you need to consider and ask questions. There is no pressure to proceed.

5
Enrolment and ongoing support

If you're eligible and choose to join, you'll be enrolled and begin the study. Our research team will be with you throughout — monitoring your health, answering questions, and supporting you at every visit. You can withdraw at any time.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What to expect at your screening visit

Your first clinic visit is called a screening visit. It helps our team confirm whether you meet the eligibility criteria for a particular study, and gives you the chance to see our facilities and meet the team before making any commitment. Depending on the study, your screening visit may include some or all of the following:

  • Physical examination including height, weight, and vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure)
  • Medical history discussion
  • Blood draw to assess general health and organ function
  • ECG (electrocardiogram — a heart rhythm tracing)
  • Urine sample
  • Pregnancy test if applicable
  • Introduction to any study devices or e-diary tools

The screening visit is conducted at no cost, and you are under no obligation to proceed after attending.

WHAT TO KNOW MORE?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a research study involving human volunteers that is designed to test whether a new treatment, medication, or device is safe and effective. Trials are conducted in phases - each phase is designed to answer specific questions and involves progressively larger groups of participants. Life Clinical Research conducts phase 2 to 4 trials across a broad range of therapeutic areas.

Who runs clinical trials?

Every trial is led by a Principal Investigator - a qualified medical doctor - supported by a research team that includes nurses, study coordinators, and specialist clinicians. Trials are funded by pharmaceutical or medical device companies, academic institutions, or through research grants from bodies such as the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Who can participate?
Every study has its own eligibility criteria - called inclusion and exclusion criteria - based on factors such as age, health condition, medical history, and current medications. Some studies recruit people living with a specific condition; others are open to healthy volunteers. If you're unsure whether you might be eligible, register your interest and our team will discuss this with you directly.
Is it safe?
All clinical trials conducted in Australia must be reviewed and approved by a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) before any participants are enrolled. The HREC includes doctors, researchers, and community members whose role is to ensure the study is ethical and that participant rights and welfare are protected. You will also be closely monitored by our research team throughout your participation.
What is informed consent?

Before joining any trial, you will be given a detailed Plain Language Statement explaining the study - what it involves, what the potential benefits and risks are, and what your rights are. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and take time to decide. Signing the consent form confirms you understand and are willing to participate. It is not a contract - you can withdraw at any time, for any reason, without it affecting your standard medical care.

Will this affect my current treatment or my regular doctor?
No. Participating in a clinical trial does not replace or interfere with your existing treatment. Our team works in collaboration with your GP or specialist, and your regular care continues as normal. You can withdraw from a study at any point without any impact on your ongoing healthcare.
How long do trials last?

This varies significantly depending on the study. Some trials involve just a few visits over several weeks; others may run for a year or more. Before you enrol, our team will explain exactly what is involved and how long your participation is expected to last.

Will I be out of pocket?
No. All study-related treatments, assessments, and clinic visits are provided at no cost to participants. Many studies also offer reimbursement for travel expenses and time. Our team will outline any applicable reimbursements before you enrol.
Can I leave the trial if I change my mind?

Yes, at any time and for any reason. Your participation is entirely voluntary. Withdrawing from a study has no effect on your standard medical care or your relationship with your regular healthcare providers.

Where are your clinics located?

Life Clinical Research has two clinical sites - one in Ipswich and one in East Brisbane. Both sites offer in-person visits, and some studies also support virtual or remote participation for eligible patients.
